SEU Alumni Shen Xiangyang Demonstrated For President Xi

On September 24th local time, President Xi Jinping visited the headquarters of Microsoft Corporation of the US in Redmond, not far away from Seattle, according to media reports. President Xi was accompanied by Shen Xiangyang, Global Executive Vice President of Microsoft Corporation and 1980 alumni of SEU, who presented him with scientific products such as meteorological data visualization and holographic lenses.

 “We feel warm in that President Xi actively shook his hands with each personnel during his visit ,” Shen commented. Shen did a 20-minute presentation on Microsoft products for President Xi in Chinese. President Xi was extremely interested in the holographic lenses and asked how it worked. Shen also said that, “I explained to him the difficulties we encountered during the designing process, e.g., light, machine, electricity, hardware and software,etc. It is somewhat like a supercomputer, at the same time, it demands dexterous technical process. President Xi and Mme. Peng Liyuan gradually understood the two technologies. We feel happy because President Xi was totally involved and the atmosphere was also good. ”

It is reported that alumni Shen Xiangyang was born in 1966 and was admitted by School of Automation in SEU at the age of 14. Later on, he got Master’s degree in HongKong University. After graduation, he went to Carnegie Mellon University for further study of computer science. He is a world-level expert in computer vision and computer graphics. In 2013, he was elected by Microsoft to be the leader of Microsoft Technology and Research&Development Department. He is also one of the Chinese computer scientists in the Microsoft top management team.
