SEU Academician Qi Kang Won Lifetime Achievement Award

 

Recently, the 18th academic annual meeting of National Architecture Institute of China & Chinese National and Traditional Village Protection and Construction Summit was held in Taiyuan municipality, capital of Shanxi province. Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences and professor in SEU, Qi Kang was awarded “2015 Lifetime Achievement Award For National Architecture of China” during the meeting for his remarkable contributions to national architecture of China as well as cultural relics protection over the past 60 years.

Academician Qi Kang is a famous architect and architecture educator. Since 1950s, Academician Qi has designed(participating in or presiding over) around 100 of patriotic architectural works, including Nanjing Yuhuatai Memorial Park of Revolutionary Martyrs & Monument Axis, Nanjing Plum Village Memorial Hall for Zhou Enlai, Nanjing Massacre Memorial Hall and so on.

According to the organizer, the architectural concepts employed by Prof. Qi convey rich philosophical reflections, besides, he also stresses the management of “space” in the architectural design. The “leave, organize and create space” principle he advocated emphasizes on not only inheriting historical culture, but also transformation and innovation. He devotes all his life to teaching; he finishes a large quantity of academic researches of high value and cultivates a multitude of architectural and urban planning talents.

The award was proposed in 2008 by National Architecture Institute of China. It is one of the most authoritative selections with regard to the architectonics field, 22 scholars exemplified by Luo Zhewen and Wu Liangyong successively won the award.
