The 5th International Conference on Language Education Policies was held in Southeast University form April 3rd to 5th. It was held by School of Foreign Languages of Southeast University, Research Center for Foreign Language Strategies of China in Shanghai International Studies University, and International Network for Language Education Policy Studies in University of Wisconsin-Madison. More than 100 experts, teachers, doctoral candidates, postgraduate students in foreign language field attended the conference and discussed around the topic of “The Impact of New Technologies on Language Education Policies ”.
Professor Terrence G. Wiley, president of the Center for Applied Linguistics in Washington, DC made a plenary speech on “Chinese Learner Views of English Language Teaching as a Basis for Informing Acquisition Planning, Policy, and Practice”. Professor Mei Deming from Research Center for Foreign Language Strategies of China in Shanghai International Studies University made a plenary speech on “Destructuralization of Information Morphology: Challenges to Language Education and Language Policy Research in the Big Data Era”. Francois Victor Tochon from University of Wisconsin-Madison made a plenary speech on “Reflecting on Experiences with an Adolescent Learning Spanish through the Distance Course of a 21st Century High School”.
In the Seminar on Language Education Policies, discussions were made on suggestions on the development of Asia-Pacific Language Policy Research Center, SEU; the integration of education technology studies and language education policy studies; prospect of the studies on China’s foreign language strategies and planning and the methodology of language education policy studies. On the parallel sessions, more experts shared their views with their fellow participants.
